Do a process listing and see if kfm is running - if not, that's your
problem, certainly sounds like it from here. Probably not a base of kfm not
being run though - it'll be being run and bombing out for whatever reason.
Check the error logs, and dump the output of X to a file if you can (drop
down to init 2/3 and start it from the console with a '2>&1 debug.out' or
something).
