Re: [Sheflug] Re: gui screen h/w problem
Hmm, hmm, hmmmmm.....
X config for unsupported cards. You could try a framebuffer device, or
(and this almost always works. I've had a Riva TNT2 running in a distro
based on kernel 1.2.13!), is this..
In XF86Setup, at the VGA drivers screen, go to advanced setup. Then,
select SVGA as the server and leave everything else as probed. Set up your
monitor. See if it works.
It appears that in the selection list of specific cards, the SiS 5597 is
listed, as is the Revolution 3D. If you select these and they still don't
work, chances are a hardware problem (although it has been known for PCI
support to have been compiled out of a kernel. See the archive for last
month ;-) . When using the Revolution 3D, do you disable the SiS using a
jumper on the MB. This is the norm, so I thought I'd check.
I use XFree86 3.3.6, (with SuSE 6.4) so if you have this version, both
your cards should work fine.
What EXACTLY are the error messages? These often hold more useful info
than you'd think.
I just thought. When I installed SuSE 6.4 using the old, text method (X
installers, eeeeeurgh) it only installed the VGA16 server. You are sure
you have the XSVGA server installed? What distro are you using? It should
be just an RPM to install with
rpm --nodeps -Uvh xsvga.rpm (or similar)
from your CD
Let me know how you get on.
