I don't know why you think this, as it's the opposite of my experience. Are you
just talking about quake?
In RTSGs the AI is obviously a big CPU hit (watch the game slow down when you
play against the AI or several AIs as opposed to against a human). Watch it slow
down even more when you script your own complex AI. When you think about this
it's obvious, keeping track of hundreds of units each with their own
semi-autonomous behaviour...
