Yes found that thanks, You're right though it do'nt look trivial. I'll leave it
aalone for a while I think.

Sorted bios was out must have moved sommat when I set it to auto detect my new
hard drive.
Sound still no luck
I have installed alsa from the suse discs but it tells me that it is already
there & used by yast 2 to detect sndcard. Well I know that do'nt work.
Also installed oss tried run it from terminal window but I get the message
"no such file or directory" which according to the intructions means I think I
am using the wrong version, As it says there is one for libc/libc5 and one for
glibc/glibc6 = Suse 6.X. I would have thought that the one included with suse
6.4 would have been the latter??
This is perhaps trivial but driving me batty as apart from this, This is the
best install I have had.
