Have you actually tried using alsaconf though? It can be a bit more
explicit about what the actual problem is.....

Mmmmm, should be.. OSS also doesn't work with PCI cards, (at least, not
the freeish version, I dont think), although that shouldn't affect you.

What settings is Windows using? That's usually a good clue if something's
a little odd....
