And while Sean's away, VUW's ITS "management" will try to replace the
entire mail system with an NT-based solution, forgetting about the fifty
million other services also running on those mail hubs, thereby entirely
destroying the University's ability to function when the following things
suddenly happen:
1. All printing anywhere on campus stops;
2. Workstations fail to boot because there are no DHCP servers any more;
3. DNS fails because the servers aren't there any more;
4. The VUW web site disappears;
5. The VUW news server disappears, along with the vuw.* hierarchy;
6. Most of the VUW web cache capacity suddenly disappears;
7. The VUW FTP server disappears;
8. All user authentication fails, including dialup lines and POP/IMAP
mailboxes;
9. Helpdesk can't log in, so can't actually *do* anything;
10. The Appletalk <-> IP conversion systems fail to boot, making large
sections of the network fall off;
11. ITS goes broke because billing for Internet IP traffic stops.
Hey Sean, there aren't any ITS management types on this list are there? <g>
Cheers
