[Sheflug] Star Office 6.0
Dear All
Latest news about Star Office has appeared on Slashdot. It says that
Star Office 6.0 has been GPL'd and there's also another licence
available which I think might be for business users.
My own opinion is that if you want a good office suite then SO 6.0 is
the answer. It's much better than Corel Office suite 2000 which only
offers more fonts. Office Suite 2000 still has bugs in it which
haven't been fixed by the latest patches.
Of course, there are those of us who are purists and will only use
Koffice and GNOME Office. Both of these are looking very good but
they still aren't as sophisticated as Star Office. Abiword does have
the advantage of being able to save in RTF, HTML and LaTEX formats.
The latter seems to impress the older Unix people who haven't yet used
anything else.
At least Linux office suites are becoming more established :-)
Whatever someone's personal tastes are there's a selection out there
for them to try out. When I started with Linux the joke was "is there
an office suite".
Thanks
