[Sheflug] Thanks and WVDial permissions
First of all, many thanks to Richard and Will for your suggestions about a good
Linux book. They have been passed on to my colleague and he is very grateful
for your help.
I know that this was brought up several weeks ago, but I hope you don't mind my
bringing it up again.
I can dial out with WVDial when logged on as ROOT, but when I am logged on as
myself, I get "Permission denied. Can't modify /etc/ppp/pap-secrets or
chap-secrets." I have used YAST to modify the groups as in the manual, and I am
included in the dialout, modem and uucp groups. According to the manual, it
should work and I can't understand why it doesn't. I have read this part of the
manual several times. I have checked the pap and chap files and each has my
user name and password as the last line (both in speech marks).
Martin said to add a line to the /etc/ppp/options file and to use the chmod
command. I haven't tried this yet. Do I have to enter the chmod command each
time I use WVDial, or only once? Do I enter the command when logged in as ROOT
or when logged in as myself?
If somone could briefly explain why the YAST group settings don't work and
exactly how I enter the chmod command, I would be very grateful.
Very many thanks
Keith
