Erm, I confess, I`m such a master at this Linux thing I can even screw up a
cut/paste :-)

From the time I get ppp to dial to full connection is 30 secs on the mark,
everytime.

I`m not sure about that one...kernel ppp is 2.3.7. I built ppp into my kernel.
But where is 2.3.10 coming from?
Aug 13 17:04:41 localhost kernel: PPP: version 2.3.7 (demand dialling)
Aug 13 17:05:10 localhost pppd[13855]: pppd 2.3.10 started by root, uid 0
How do I sort this?

I bring the connection up with the Gnome Applet most of the time which calls
/usr/sbin/usernetctl ppp0 up and /usr/sbin/usernetctl ppp0 down, or (rarely)
ifup.
I`m trying to get MasqDialer running as well, so my folks can dial out thro my
machine.
Here`s my /etc/conf.modules:
alias eth0 ne2k-pci
alias sound sb
pre-install sound /sbin/insmod sound dmabuf=1
options opl3 io=0x388
alias midi awe_wave
post-install awe_wave /bin/sfxload /etc/midi/GU11-ROM.SF2
options sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0x330
