Fair dos ;)

Mmm. I'm not much cop at this analogue phone lark, not used one in a while

Dunno.

To be honest, I'm not convinced that's necessarily the problem - pppd is
different software to the kernel, and thus may have a different version
number. Is CONFIG_PPP in the kernel as static, or as a module? Also, have
you tried updating ppp? (Some versions are pretty flakey). I personally
would expect the two version numbers to be the same, but I guess that ain't
necessarily so.

Um, does it like, toss a coin or what? Do these scripts work manually,
outside of the applet, or not?

If you have Masq already running, you can run pppd in demand mode. That
means every time a packet destined for ppp0 is ready to send, the link is
brought up if it's not up already, and then goes down after three minutes of
non-usage (by default, I think, but you can change the amount of time). Of
course, that's so easy it can quite quickly become expensive, but it is
easy.

Looks fine to me, although it's pretty small compared to mine. I'm surprised
not to see something like 'alias ppp0 ppp' in there, although I guess it's
distro-dependant.
Try running the scripts outside of the applet, and see if the problem
persists. If so, try updating ppp. If that still doesn't solve it, it's
probably a problem with the scripts that invoke ppp I imagine, unless anyone
else has any bright ideas?
Cheers,
Alex.
