I've been running a Hauppauge Win-TV (the nicam version) for about two
years now. It's easy(ish) to get setup, at least once you know what
you're doing.

I use Gnome, rather than KDE, but I can't see there being too many
problems with KWinTV. I think I tried it a long time ago, and got it to
work even then.
I use xawtv, and it works a treat.

I don't know about the other distros, but with RedHat you need to tell
the installer to install the kernel-smp rpm, which is basically a kernel
image with support for SMP/multiple processors.
It then defaults to the SMP mode on boot, although you have the option
to boot a normal kernel, with support for only one processor. Don't ask
me why you'd want to tho' :-)

You're probably as well to do a kernel rebuild if you feel up to it
after installing the system anyway, to slim things down a bit. Just make
sure you check the SMP support option and enhanced realtime clock
option, and that's the only difference to a normal rebuild.

Again, I've got a dual PII 400 system, and it trogs along happily.

 Any bother, gimme a shout.

 Hope this helps.
