Cryptographically, triple-DES is still considered a very srong cipher...for
those that don't know, the key is in two parts and 112 bits in length, and
the text to encrypt is passed through the DES function three times, with each
part of the key being used for differing stages. The message is first
encrypted with the first part of the key, /decrypted/ with the second part,
and encrypted again with the first part. The second stage (decryption) makes
a buggery mess of the original text, and its this encrypt-decrypt-encrypt
that makes it inherently strong against attack.
Yes, with enough CPU time, you can crack it, but that's the same for any
cipher.
