	sndconfig is quite a good tool unless you have a new and flashy
card. I have always relied on it, and has never failed.

	You might want to have a look at http://www.alsa-project.org/~goemon
which describes the cards supported by ALSA. Beware of cheap cards, as
some of them might not be supported: I have a special offer for an ALS
4000 which won't be supported by ALSA. Also, check the kernel sources to
see which cards are happy with the kernel directly. This will save you
installing ALSA, which I usually find annoying, and better to be avoided
:D
