No firewall setup, routing table is fine...

Hmm...it's a brand new null modem cable & serial cable so I doubt that.

good idea, except that I have no problems when I just use minicom to get into 
the machine. If the serial chip was that flakey is should cause problems all 
the time, not just with pppd, I'd have thought.

Aye ... I'll throw the ppp debug option on and see if I get owt on either 
end. Didn't think of doing this actually :)
