Why cant we standardize on one desktop? Or make the two desktops

Then we wouldn't have a choice. :-) There are more than just two desktops,
althought KDE and Gnome are probably the main two.
Strangely, I've never had much problems running a program under both systems,
although Gnome is my choice of desktop at the moment.
If you can't run a program under both systems, there is probably an
alternative
that will.

Mmm. Have you settled down and read the Networking HOWTOs?
I've had success setting up and using NE2000 clones and 3Com 509 NICs.
I'm not sure how SUSE set up their default kernels, but try modprobing the
ne2k
module (check /lib/modules/kernel-2.what.ever/network to see if the module is
there).
Edit /etc/sysconfig/network and then ifup eth0. Hopefully that should do it.

Solve all your problems? ROFL. :-)
Once you find another ISP, give your setup a go, and if it still doesn't
work,
post your config scripts and we can all have a look a them.
Cheers,
Baz.
