Re: [Sheflug] mandrake7.2

ReiserFS then. I have been using it since I got the boxed set of SuSE 6.4
(about 4-5 months?) anyway, its great. I use the notail option when
mounting, as it can be slow with small files (changes to logs, tmp files,
etc) otherwise. Without that, updatedb nearly crippled the system! With
the option its fine. Also, I use DMA on my HDD, so its OK.

Anyway, installing. Make sure you have every ReiserFS option turned on in
the kernel (NOT MODULES!!)

Basically, I swapped each partition out to a spare disk, created a
reiserfs file system on the old partition, and copied everything back. I
did this with the SuSE 6.4 rescue disk, as it has reiserfs support and all
the tools etc.(I copied mkreiserfs from /sbin. For some reason it isn't
included in the rescue disk). The command to do the copying was simply cp
-a /old_hdd/* /new_hdd (mount points created in the ramdisk).

Also, as it is currently not possible (in stable versions of LILO
anyhow) to boot to a reiserfs partition, you will NEED a 7-8Mb boot
partition.

And thats it!

Life would be so much easier if we
could just look at the source code.
