rpm -e emacs ; rpm -i  xemacs

XEmacs's menus are a lot better and more things like font-lock are
preconfigured.

If you don't want to go so drastic, try M-x fontlock-mode or M-x
font-lock-mode (forgot how it's spelled).  M-x font TAB TAB for a list
of completions.  cc-mode should already be enabled .

If not, look up  C-h v auto-mode-alist and C-h v c-mode-hook, and/or
c++-mode-hook.
