Ah, I see. Completely unlike Word, which is a complete pain until you
get to grips with it. Then, it just starts to do evil things when you
need it most, like destroy half of your final year dissertation for
no good reason.
But I'm not bitter ;)
Seriously though, LaTeX is a bit hairy to start off with, but you
soon get used to it. And I'm sure that with WYSIWYG style front-ends
for it (e.g. LyX), it'll take a lot of the pain out of setting things
up for the first time and smooth the learning curve a little bit.
