StarPresents is a workable substitute, if it was a standalone app without
the rest of the baggage train in tow I'd use it more regularly. I used it
to create a presentation for some Linux training courses. It did what I
wanted, how I wanted it. KPresenter also seems pretty functional, though I
haven't spent too much time wiht it so far.

After all, what's so hard about whacking some piccys on screen, moving
some text around in a disorienting and purposeless way and a few
fades/dissolves just to annoy the audience ;)
