I still don't suspect kernel. Too much is broken; I can't believe that ;))
Firstly, recompile glibc with symbols in if it isn't already. Make a simple
test case (you said things return -EINVAL? Just test a one function
program), load it into gdb and step all the way through it. strace the
program. There has to be a reason it's doing what it's doing, and I'm sure
it'll be obvious (eventually).
