Re: [Sheflug] Blasted X Server again!

Hi Barrie,

looks to me like Stephen Turnbull has your problems wired, but as I've not
played with a Linux xserver in over a year I help with specifics. But a
couple of things to look at spring to mind immidiately...

<suck eggs>
The first is covered by Stephen's SUID root stuff: it looks like the log
file perms are not set for the xserver to write as user oracle.

"client rejected". This may be an xhost + thing...again most likely solved
by SUID root. xhost + is a nasty mechanism that I never like to unset. Any
changes need to be as restrictive as possible. Some applications object to
it as a (rightly) paranoid saftey catch. the mail client exmh being one of
these applications that I know of.

My memory fails me on this one ( I don't have the man pages to hand), but
I've a feeling that you can only run one instance of part of X. I forget
which bit, but that may be why you can't start a second instance.
</suck eggs>

I may on the other hand be talking complete a**e. But if Stephen's stuff
doesn't solve all your problems, then poking around in the areas I suggest
may help a little. Oh it would be stunningly helpful if I had my Linux box
up and running today...or anyone of the numerous planned Unix/Linux boxes.

HTH (a little)
Lewis
