Re: [Sheflug] Parallel IDE CD-ROM frustrations
Hi All (but particularly Guennadi)
Thanks for this info. In fact, you're absolutely right - the syntax is
insmod pcd drive0=0x378,<protocol>
I'd actually determined this earlier, then somehow the information
got lost in the wash.
Now I have another update, though. I have been advised (thanks, Matt)
that /proc/ioports won't show up anything unless there's actually a
device active on the system. I've also checked a couple of net
documents that document connecting parallel devices, and it seems
that... just possibly epat may be the wrong high-level driver, or pcd
may be the wrong way to go. I'll try pf and pg - though they're for
IDE disks an ATAPI disks, not ATAPI CD-ROMS.
The problem is that the list of drivers for chipsets I've been
reading only mentions brand names of commercially supplied parallel
IDE disks, not the chipset info appropriate for the empty
parallel-to-IDE converter box that I have. The chipset on the IDE to
parallel box is an SMS 31-144... but that information is the only
info I have about the device - other than that the title of one of
the DOS drivers included the string 'PAT'. The other drivers all
mention proprietary systems in their names, which is why I guessed at
'epat'. However, I might get lucky with another one... Unfortunately,
there are twenty-seven combinations of pf, pcd and pg with drivers,
and even then, I may have to sort out something else to get a result.
(I feel another happy couple of hours of fiddling coming on...)
I don't suppose anyone has any information about branded parallel to
IDE devices that include an SMS 31-144 chipset...?
Cheers,
James
