Well, having recently spend 3 months+ looking for a software
development job in Sheffield and surroundings, I can say agencies
and online job sites are not the thing I thought it would be.
Agencies and online sites are connected in the way that I've found
that jobs online are posted by agencies.
Since posting resumes to such agencies via online jobsites, I've
received many call backs from them, but only *ONE* actually did
manage to arrange an interview with a Sheffield company. Other
agencies said that the original job posting was 'inactive', 'filled', etc
and proceed to offer me jobs in other parts of the country.
One other agency that managed to get me an interview advertised
on the paper, not on online sites.
In the end I managed to be interviewed by companies advertising
directly in the paper and companies I sent CV directly, having seen
vacancies on their website.
So, at this point in time, I am not a good example of what agencies
are capable of...
