We've moved some of our critical apps from IBM RS/6000s to
Athlon based Linux boxes.
To the users, nothings changed, it's still a terminal session to
them, on the backend, we had a whole load of shell scripts to
re-write (just tweaks, and a move to lpr from lpq (under AIX)).
The COBOL stuff pretty much stayed the same, just re-compile
everything, sort out the bugs and that was it.
The whole project lasted just over 6 months, and we went live in
January of this year.
Mind you, it helps that (almost) all of I.T. here are into Linux,
but we also get a decent leash from the directors.
