Well, dunno about *BSD, but if we just throw a little DocBook SGML
around your post, we have a Linux manual for the techs.
There's no excuse any more!
More seriously, the real issue is that Windows programs are allowed
and expected to break each other. However, since Windows is designed
from the ground up to support users have trouble concentrating on a
single task, let alone running concurrent processes, you can get away
with "There are other applications running. Please close all
applications before attempting to install this software. ... Please
reboot for changes to take effect."
How many windows users actually plan their days around "First I gotta
do X, because if I run AppY first, AppX doesn't work right"?
Just like a toaster. You can only put one slice of bread in the slot
at a time....
