Java is a very employable skill right now, unfortunately there aren't that
many IT companies based in the north of England. As to the "hiring
foreigners" bit, I'm not sure what the regulations are, you would need a
work permit, but I have no idea how you go about getting one.
Commuting to Leeds/Nottingham takes around an hour on the train (an hour
for 30-something miles? oh yes) and Manchester a little more.
