scandisk - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Noone knows why.

Each filesystem has a set number of mounts it can do before a check is
done. It is basically a precaution to force an e2fsck every know and
again. You can disable it or change the number of mounts with tune2fs.

If the check returned no errors you are probably OK. (To check manually
unmount the partition in question and read the man page for e2fsck. Or the
other way round. :)

However, strange disk noises = bad. Now would be a good time to make
backups (you do have backups don't you? :) and be a bit vigilent for the
next few days. Hard errors have a habit of creeping across your drive when
you aren't looking.
