If it supports Hayes/AT commands (pretty much any modem worth the
name) it will do the job.

And you get flashy lights. :-)

I've got a 3Com/USR 56K Faxmodem that is as good as any. Around the
£50 mark, IIRC, but I'm sure you get other external modems
fractionally cheaper.
Either way; goto [your fav bits shop], pick external
modem. Purchase. Plug in.

That's yer lot really.

Of course, make sure you like the colour of the flashy lights.

As you can tell, I really put a lot of thought into my modem selection!
