I think my more detailed advice would be "set it to yes if you have 2.4".
There will be occasions on which some things just won't work with it set to
yes, but there will be a lot less conflicts with it set to yes in general.
My belief is that the probability of stuff going screwy is lower with it set
to yes on a 2.4 kernel. 

If you're on 2.3 or below, set it to "No" :-)
