[Sheflug] Another stupid Debian Q.

Hi everyone.

Just having got my RH7.1 all installed and pretty much everything
working, I'm still itching to rip it all apart and go Debian, however
I'm a little confused as to how I can be selective with an apt-get
dist upgrade (or whatever the command is).

I'm intending to install 2.2r0 and upgrade that with apt to "Woody" -
but looking through the package list, I note there are about 3
different versions of the kernel, a couple of GCC packages (2.95.x and
a 3.0 snapshot at least) and so on...

How would I:

(a) tell apt I want kernel-2.2.x (or better still 2.4.x)
(b) not to grab everything - 56k modems are not built for 6 disk
downloads!
(c) not to bother with things like GCC 3.0-snapsnot :-)

Having only done a couple of basic installations with Debian, and no
updating, I haven't got the slightest clue, and haven't seen anything
truely enlightening on Debian.org.

I'd like to get the system going ASAP - probably this (long) weekend
if I can.

On a similar note, does anyone have a full set of Ximian debs that I
could get on CD?

I would of course pay for CD+postage+a pint for your troubles :-)

Cheers.

Baz.
