MMmmm. This was rather an interesting read.
Microsoft seem to be declaring erm....nothing, but their overwhelming
need to make even more money, by sticking with the whole thou shalt
upgrade idea.
Linus' response is quite pleasant to read, and I especially like the
Einstein/Da Vinci lines :-)
However, as those of you that met me a last month's meeting might have
noticed that I'm still a little skeptical about the current open
source and/or .com business model - especially when combined with the
crazy spending and overhiring by some companies.
VP's are causing more problems than they are solving, IMHO - give
programmers $nn million to start a company from one product and a
small team, and expect it to return serious profits yesterday, instead
of letting the company/enterprise grow naturally (maybe with support -
not a force feed of capital/marketing types).
I do think Open Source is a seriously Good Thing (tm) but maybe the
hype/over enthusiasm of rich types are causing a few too many
headaches.
Quality programming != instant good business *
* although it does go a long way.

Must be too many Old Peculiers :-)
Just my 2p.
Baz.
