[Sheflug] Xfree and sound - the saga is now on hold

Well...after fiddling with X and various kernels, I did the only thing I
hadn't actually done...

I downgraded from XFree 4.0.3 to XFree 3.3.6, and I'm pleased to say that
the sound now plays quite happily whilst an ls -l is going on in other
windows.

So...I conclude that XFree86 4 is not very friendly on other hardware.
Maybe it's becuase I've got an ISA sound card? Maybe it's because my
machine can't handle huge amounts of bandiwdth being passed over its busses?

What ever XFree 4 does, Xfree 3.3 doesn't, and that's all that matters...so
now I can listen to music without it stuttering.

I may revisit this at some point, and stick XFree 4 back on six months down
the line after XFree 4.1 has been released...until then, I'm happy not
being at the cutting edge :)

Chris...
