I would imagine it doesn't - are you sure? dselect has the most rubbish
interface in the whole entire history of rubbish interfaces, edlin
included.

If you deselect them, they won't be installed. But check that they're not
installed already  though. 

Run dpkg -l [package], and check the first two/three characters. The first
character is what you're going to do (i.e., install, uninstall, hold), the
second is the current status (installed, halfinstalled, etc.) and the third
is any errors (this may be empty). You'll usually either see 'ii' for things
which are installed on your system, and either rn or rc for things which
aren't. If dpkg wants to install them later, they'll be labelled in or ic
(IIRC). 

My advice would be to stick with apt[itude] - dselect sucks.
