[Sheflug] xhost

hi all,

i'm trying to view x app on one machine running on another!
from what i can tell... it should be quite simple.

once the ppp link is established, i run

xhost +"ipaddress"

(no errors)

i telnet to remote machine & i run

export DISPLAY="ipaddress"

(no errors)

but when i try and execute an application on the remote machine (via telnet), 
i get an error saying 'cannot open display "ipaddress"'?

i'm running kernel2.4.3 and xinitd (if that makes a difference) with 
xfree86-4. i did wonder if the iptables firewall rules could block the 
connection but i'm not sure where to start looking. any suggestions?
