Hi Stephen,
The numerical method was just the only one I knew about. After
some research, the joys of the "Compose" key come to light. Basically, I
have assigned Compose to one of the Winblows keys. So you just type
Compose+'~' n to get ñ and so on.
For the console the procedure was just to edit the keymap file
and same result again, as most of the ISO characters are already
configured to work with Compose.
