You're forgotton to compile in support for your root device. That means the
IDE chipset either isn't there, or is a module and you haven't setup initrd.

Selecting processors and stuff is fine, I wouldn't bother removing stuff
though - you gain nothing. Just make it as modules. Except the root device,
obviously...
