[Sheflug] Impossible speeds

I just had the weirdest thing happen. I downloaded the latest version of
SANE, and had emelfm open as well. The download was reporting 18.6KB/s
(yes, kiloBYTES), so I took it with a pinch of salt.

However, on repeatedly clicking refresh in emelfm, I discovered that sure
enough the file was growing by approx. 20KB every second. It eventually
finished 5.6MB in 5min 40sec (340 seconds), which I calculated to be
17.8KB/s.

Question is, how the hell did it manage that? I have never been to that
site before (I usually use the SANE included with SuSE) so it couldn't be
cached, and there must have been some pretty damned good compression to
squash a tgz so much as to go that fast!

ideas?

Craig
