CD audio is routed through a different mixer than digital audio. (I know CDs
are digital; but the audio that comes out is analogue..). You need to make
sure the CD->Sound Card connection is good (connectors firmly in, etc.), and
that the CD audio mixer is turned up. Look on the bright side: your sound
config is mostly working!

Hmm, no idea what they are, but could be something rotton in
/etc/modules.conf.
