Re: [Sheflug] Soundblaster Live! not working

thanks Alex for your continued patience.

I still have to check this: I suspect the connection is dodgy and I will
try moving the card if that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I assume you meant mixer channel, and not that I'd have to run 2 mixer
programs...

I guess that is true, but it still doesn't "sound right"; some kind of
"static" that I'm sure wasn't there before we installed SuSE. Perhaps
that also indicates a hardware problem?

So I looked in to that, but I don't really understand the documentation,
which appears to say that none of the remaining configuration lines
should be uncommented if the first three (i.e.

alias char-major-14 off
alias sound off
alias midi off
)
are left in. But the lines I uncommented out DO appear to be needed, if
the error messages above are to be believed.

Anyway, uncommenting the lines causes new errors and doesn't fix the
original ones:

Jul 10 11:07:08 linux insmod: insmod: a module named snd-mixer-oss
already exists
Jul 10 11:07:08 linux insmod: insmod: insmod sound-service-0-3 failed
Jul 10 11:32:57 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module
sound-slot-1
Jul 10 11:32:57 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module
sound-service-1-0

I don't understand how ALSA is working if it doesn't use kernel sound
drivers: what sound drivers is it using if they are not in the kernel?
