[Sheflug] Debian

Dear All

I've finally been able to get hold of a second hard disk for my
notebook at a cost of £65. Installed Debian into it today and most
things work. Just Irda that refuses to budge.

I've downloaded Komba2 and Quanta 2.0 source code so that I can
compile these applications and use them. Since it's Debian the
packages aren't available on the Debian site.

When I do './configure' to start the compile all the usual stuff
scrolls down the screen. Then I get an error message that says ....

" checking for libz ... configure: error: not found. Check your
installation and look into config.log"

What does this mean ? Have I not installed something that should be
in there ? I get the same error message with every application that
I try to install. New to Debian 2.2 r3 and so not quite sure what to
look for.

Thanks

Thanks
