Pete, I'm using Man 8.0. This is how I configured my dialup connection.
Under KDE I have a icon Mandrake Control Centre. I cliked on that. On
the left hand pane I clicked on the + sign next to the internet icon.
This gives another icon called connection. Click on that and in the
right hand pane you have Profile / Del profile / new profile. Near the
bottom right of this pane is a confgure button. I clicked on that, chose
auto detection and next. Then chose normal modem connection & next
again. Selected com2 & next. Gave a connection name Worldonline (my
isp), phone number used to access my isp, user name (the rest of what
goes after [at] in email address, typed in my password (make sure it's
correct) authentication - pap. Next, then you are asked if you would
like to test your connection.
Sorry if the above is spelled out to basic, not sure what you know.
Works for me ok, sometimes I get a ppd demon died but not often. Have
you selected the correct com port and your modem is not a win modem?
