Sounds like you have a monitor problem. Make sure your horizontal and 
vertical rates are set right, maybe try a different resolution.

I'm running 4.0.3 here and it's fine. 4.1.0 is just around the corner 
(uploaded to Debian incoming yesterday AFAIK).

I thought the install was atrocious, although I was using snapshot CDs. 
dselect made me want to give up living, it violates pretty much every user 
interface rule in the book. Debian is nice though.
