[Sheflug] Stone Age Serial Comms
Hi All,
I'm trying a bit of command-line serial comms (connecting two
machines via serial ports) and I'm having trouble! One machine is a
Linux box, the other a Psion. I've successfully set the correct baud
rate, data bits, baud rate and stop bit with 'stty' and thus I can
transfer text to the Psion's terminal window simply by:
echo test > /dev/ttyS0
or
cat test.txt > /dev/ttyS0
However, I can't yet find a way to do 8 bit file transfers. (I can
transfer 7-bit files to the Psion's terminal window, but I can't save
them off to disk.
The Psion only gives the options 'Kermit' and 'Y Modem'
How do I send and receive files from the command line? I presume
there's some method of piping or involved command lines that are
completely obvious after you've worked them out. I suspect they
involve ackwards redirecting '</dev/ttyS0' and/or gratuitous use of
ampersands. Please help! I've tried the serial HOWTO but what I need
are specific examples.
Also, can I set the 'echo' thingey so that when I type in at the
Psion I see the result on the Linux box, and/or vice-versa?
Any ideas?
Cheers,
James
