[Sheflug] Syncronizing clocks with ntp[date|d]
Hi everyone.
I seem to remember that a few of you do something similar to what I'm
about to ask...
I've got a couple of machines that seem to have terrible drift on
their clocks, and I've so far been unable to correct it.
I'm looking to syncronize all the machines clock to one machine on the
network, which in turn will be sync'd to ntpXX.mcc.ac.uk via NTP - from what I
can see this is the way NTP should be set up, instead of having each
machine hassling the ntp servers :-)
I've got a Debian box with the ntpd and ntpdate packages installed.
How should I go about setting up that one box to get the time from the
NTP servers? Just run ntpd with the correct IPs in /etc/ntp.conf?
Running ntpd did not appear to correct the time of the machine, which
was several hours out when I connected in to the network.
Should the other machines on the network just run ntpdate -s
$local_ntp_servers_ip?
Does the ntp system compensate for/correct drift in the boxen's system
clocks?
Cheers.
Baz.
