[Sheflug] Simple question on assigning domains at instal
When I install a Linux Distro, I always come up against the need for an ip
address and the assorted gateways and subnets that go with DNS.
My problem is that I'm on a dial up connection of a standard sort, or a
cable modem, that's hooked directly to a hub. The service assigns ip
address, sets the gateway, etc., and all is well with a simple-minded win or
Mac system. But both Solaris and Linux want specific information--or to be
told that a DHCP server is available, and then want some specific
information about that, which I don't have.
I've found that the DHCP option doesn't work first time through on the
Solaris Instal, and I have to say "nothing" and then config the ip interface
later.
What do I have to do for Linux in these situations? Say, for a standard RH
6.2 or 7.1 install? What do I tell the installation program at the network
config screens?
TIA,
Steve Carter
