Not being able to remember exactly what RH asks for in that regard I may be a 
bit general.

IP addresses are assigned to interfaces, not machines. So if you have an 
ethernet card, it will have an IP address (if it is running TCP/IP) and if 
you have a PPP connection it will also have an IP address. The IP address 
usually asked for on install is for eth0, the first ethernet. If you are 
using a LAN then pick a private address range like 192.168.x.x and pick an 
address (subject to a couple of caveats). If you are using PPP only then just 
leave everything empty/default. When pppd connects it determines the address 
that has been assigned and makes it the address of ppp0, and sets the PPP 
interface as the default gateway, and all is well.

For a decent explanation of how IP addressing, netmasks and the like work 
there are a number of good books, I would recommend "Computer Networks" by 
Bruce Davie.
