[Sheflug] Postgresql and networks questions

Hi,

I have a couple of questions which I hope some kind soul can help me with -
trying to find solutions to them has nearly driven me daft today (OK, I know
there's not far to go for me to be totally daft!)

1. I'm trying to set up Postgresql - server and client - on an RH 6.2 box
and I can't get it to start the server (I don't think). This is a new prog
to me and I'm trying to make sense of the documentation that comes with
postgresql but the instructions in it don't seem to work. It seemed to go OK
during install but when I get to 'initdb' I get a whole screenfull of
messages scrolling by saying 'ERROR: must OPEN RELATION before INSERT' I
can't find any reference to this kind of message in the docs - anyone any
idea what is going wrong and how I can cure it?

2. I've just set up Windows 2000 on a new box on the network and I can't get
it to access any of the linux boxen. I can see the linux machines in the
'network' window on the win 2K box, but when I click on their icons I get
the message 'The account is not authorised to log in from this station'. I
set up the 'hosts' file on the linux boxes for the new machine just like I
did for the Windows 98 box which has no problem getting into the linux ones.
Any ideas what might be wrong?

Thanks,

Ian
