ext3 is (currently) just ext2 with journalling. Journalling is just
a way of making sure that filesystem metadata is always in a
consistent state, even if the machine should crash or lose power
unexpectedly. So use of ext3 should just be based on whether having
to fsck to repair metadata at boot time is acceptable.
