I had a go at Debian on here a few months back, mostly slating the package
management (apt-get has an unbending love for dependancies, which can be
worked around but to me it feels too much like jumping through hoops), but
more annoying and irritating is the fact that "single user" run-level
attempts to bring up the network by DHCP, mounts every file system, and
promptly tries to mount any NFS file system.
The fact that later on in the boot sequence it brings up the networking
according to the config, so for my eth0 that is config'd by dhcp, I ended
up having two DHCP clients running. One trying to configure every interface
(and failing on eth1), and the other specifically configuring eth0.
Debian also doesn't like manual fiddling of /etc/modules.conf, instead
creating files in /etc/modules (I think it was) then running a voodoo
command to take all of the files in said directory and build an
/etc/modules.conf ... pointless.
I don't know why people rave about it. I'm back on slack now ... no
nonsence distribution :)
