A couple of things:

The dependencies on Debian kernels are IMO not nearly strict enough. e.g. the
2.4.10 image doesn't ask for modutils-2.4.10 to be installed which breaks it
in various subtle ways. It's something of a trial and error job to find the
correct dependencies.

Kernels > 2.4.8 have IMO been broken. Various things have stopped working.
